Slow But Sure
So my experiment (a weekly to do list) has been going pretty good. I started off by not demanding too much of myself each week. But now it's time to step it up by adding more things to do each week. So I'm moving forward to accomplish my personal goals. Especially for that career change that I want. Wish me luck.

I Need a ReVamp of my ReVamp
Why? Why do I feel I don't have any time to get things done? Maybe it's because I waste so much time online. I only work part time so my time is not spent working at my job, and yet I feel like I don't have enough time to do anything. It's got to be the time I spend online.
I have so much to learn to become a Professional Genealogist and I really don't think I can accomplish this in the 5 year goal I set for myself. It feels like right now that it could take me 10 years. And when I think that it could take 10 years, I think of how old I'll be and wondering if I can change careers while approaching 60. I just don't know. And I also think that I can't stay in my present career for that much longer.
I guess I need to stop wasting time online (at least on Facebook & Pinterest) and spending it online learning Genealogy. Really focus on what I want to do and what I want to become.

An Experiment
I've never been very good at maintaining any kind of set schedule. So I've decided to try a little experiment. Instead of setting up a time schedule to get whatever it is that I want to get done, I'm going to just make a To Do List for the week and check the items off as I complete them. I figure I'll give it a month and see how it works for me. Then maybe I'll get some things done that I've been putting off.
It's worth a shot anyway.

I've Been Busy....Procrastinating
It's been a while. What is the cure for procrastination? Anyone? There are things I want to accomplish and yet it seems like I do nothing but waste time.
Truthfully, that isn't completely true. But the progress seems slower than a snails pace, and I don't like it.
Don't get me wrong I could utilize my time better I'm sure and I do waste a great deal of it.
When I was young I would set goals. I should give that a try instead of trying to keep it all in my head on what to do next, etc...
Wish me luck. Until next time.

Getting a Move On...Finding Inspiration
My beautiful niece Victoria has started her own business helping other people get organized. This is something she is passionate about and I find it inspiring to get a move on.
As you can see it has been a while since I've posted. Lots of stuff going on. But it's time I stop this stuff from getting in the way of my ReVamp.
So, although this post will be brief, you'll be seeing more from me soon.

Out of my Mind Insane Craziness
In searching for a specific item, that I believed that I still had and which I have yet to find, I've made a horrible realization. I have mentioned before that I am a bit of a packrat, well I've realized that I have way way too much JUNK.
I've always held onto things thinking that someday it will be useful, or as mementos. It is a large burden that I know now needs to be dealt with. The one thing that I've decided on how to weed all this stuff out is that in going through the things I believe are mementos that if I look at it and it doesn't evoke any memory of anything that it is time to get rid of it. I haven't figured out any other methods to use in getting rid of anything else, but I'm sure I'll think of something or I'd love some suggestions.

Believe
Believing in the possibility ... there is no other choice. If you can see it and believe it, it's a lot easier to achieve it.
Believe Believe Believe. I'm having to tell myself this over and over. It's easy to feel discouraged when the progress I'm making is just baby steps. Then I have to remind myself that these things are all part of a long-term goal and that baby steps are just fine.
In the past this is the point where I would have given up telling myself that I am a failure and that I always fail at everything. Well not this time. I must BELIEVE and accept progressing at this time in baby steps and also that it won't always be just in baby steps.
There is no other choice for me. My life must change and I'm excited about the goals that I've set.

Can You Take on Too Much?
In my last post I discussed multi-tasking, but is it possible to be doing too many things at once?
I've been working on the To Do List for my 5 Year Plan, my cleaning and organizational goals, the novel I'm writing and thinking about (not yet doing) my weight loss goals. I am also reading my genealogy books and magazines as well. Am I trying to work on too many things at one time?
Am I going to burn out trying to do it all? Or will I feel motivated with the progress I'm making towards the ultimate goal - A total ReVamp of my life?

To Multi-task or not
In working on my To Do List for my 5 Year Plan I'm still feeling frustrated that I'm not further along in completing my goals. When I multi-task my progress goes very slow, or so it seems to me, because I'm only working on multiple goals and I'm not able to check it off my list.
I guess it's all in the way you look at things. I'm still making progress either way. So I guess I need to decide what is more satisfying, to multi-task where I make progress on several things at a time or to concentrate on one thing until it is completed.
It seems logical to me to multi-task because my 5 Year Plan deals with so many different aspects of my life but I have always been more of a focus on one thing type of person. But this ReVamp is about change. Hmmm?

Oh the Dilemma
The pace at which I am achieving my goals is slow which is frustrating. I have to remind myself that it doesn't matter how fast I can accomplish or complete something and that the most important thing is that I am making forward progress. But I am one of those people that when I want something I want it NOW! At times this makes me feel discouraged. Something that I have been working on in changing my mindset and the feeling of discouragement doesn't last as long as it used to.
So to the dilemma. I really really want to be more organized and I feel it is critical in the long run to achieve my goals. But, and this is a big BUT, I have always been a bit of a packrat. Actually, sometimes extremely so. So the question would be, can a packrat still be a packrat and be organized?

And so Self-Doubt Creepeth In
Not all that surprising to me really. I have this huge fear of failure. Which usually keeps me from actually starting anything (and I mean anything) in the first place. Plus I have this track record of starting something and never finishing it. Thus I have failed over and over again. I always tell myself I'll get back to it. I have lots of unfinished projects piled up, believe it or not some are even decades old, because eventually I plan on finishing it.
I'm almost surprised I'm still writing this blog. But I'm determined. And I think it's time I pull out those unfinished projects (mostly sewing and crafts) and finish them. The dress may not be the right size right now, but if all goes well with this ReVamp that might just change.

Trouble in Paradise
So I really want to do this. But more importantly I really NEED to do this. But I've hit a stumbling block, that I should have seen coming. Probably the single most important aspect of my life that needs this ReVamp.
You know the saying Just Do It!? Well I don't, just do it, that is. I'm the worst kind of procrastinator. How do you revamp that? For as long as I can remember I've always put off doing things (just about anything) until the last minute. In school, I would wait to do homework until late the night before it was due.
I always say I'll start tomorrow and tomorrow never comes because I'll say it over and over again. They say to replace a bad habit with a good habit. But procrastination isn't just a habit it's a behavior. What's the old saying to change a behavior? I don't know. Help!?

Do what you love, love what you do
It took me a very long time to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. There were times that I thought I had it figured out. In 2nd grade I wanted to be a Las Vegas Showgirl, this was during the time that I was taking Tap Dancing, which I loved. And my dad had taken the family to a show in Las Vegas and on the way home I told him that I wanted to do that. Shortly thereafter my Tap Dancing classes ended. In 7th grade I wanted to be an architect. It didn't take me very long to change my mind about that one. First, I couldn't draw a straight line and second, someone told me how much schooling it would require. And I really didn't like that idea. In 10th grade I wanted to be an Interior Designer. I loved going through model homes to see how they were decorated and would think to myself that I could do that. Not sure why I changed my mind on that one. When I entered college (the one and only semester I attended) I still hadn't chosen. Then I thought I had it. So I quit college and went to a travel school, my goal to become the General Manager of The Hotel del Coronado (one of my favorite places ever). But after I finished school and applied to The Del, and got my rejection letter, that dream ended. I landed purely by chance working for Western Airlines. I've been working for the Airlines on and off now for over 25 years. I've had enough. It was never what I wanted to do, but I had a child to support. Well that child is now grown and supports himself. It's time for me to pursue something I do want to do. Not just something I know how to do.
What do I want to do? I asked myself what do I love to do? Well, I love to read. No, I don't think there are any jobs out there that would pay me to read what I want to. (If any of you out there know if that does exist, please let me know). I know, I love doing Genealogy. Can I make a living at it? Maybe not completely
. What can I do to supplement an income from Genealogy clients? What else do I love to do? Well I love sewing and crafts. I asked myself would that work? Actually, I think it just might be enough to supplement any income I earn doing genealogy work.
That's it. I want to be a Professional Genealogist when I grow up. And to supplement my income I will sell my handmade crafts online. I've started a 5 year plan with these goals in mind. I can't tell you how excited I feel about working towards this goal. None of those other career choices when I was younger ever evoked such excitement.
ReVamp underway.

The Journey Begins
I turned 46 years old last month. It really seems impossible to me, I don't feel it and yet I do. As I get older I've come to realize that I need a complete ReVamp of myself and my life. Over the years I have let myself go, completely.
Here I will document my journey to ReVamp, everything from my weight and my wardrobe to my career. I'm very excited to get started.
